We have a very firm “sick child policy”. If your child is not feeling well, please keep him/her home until the condition has improved. Do not bring your child to school if s/he has a fever over 98.6F or 37C, a contagious rash, bad cough, any discharge of colored or profuse mucus from the nose or eye, diarrhea, sore throat, or if your child is vomiting or any student who is suffering from a communicable disease. If your child becomes ill during class, we will contact you with the expectation that a parent or guardian will immediately come and pick up your child. The ill child will be kept away from the other children until the parent has arrived to take the child home. We also ask that parents of any child, who becomes ill with a communicable disease after school hours, contact the school as soon as possible so other families may be notified. The staff are required to fill out an illness form which includes the ill child’s name, date of incident, staff member who identified the ill child, time child was removed as well as date the child returned to the program. The child will only return back to the program once a written notice from a physician has been presented indicating the child does not pose a health risk to persons on the program premises.
To keep our classroom as germ-free as possible we ask the children to sanitize their hands upon entry to our classroom. This is only given at the beginning of class or if we have been touching something during a presentation. If your child has any sensitivity to these products please advise one of the staff members.
Kinderssori Academy may provide or allow the use of health care to a child only when the written consent of the parent has been obtained, or when the health care provided is in the nature of first aid.
Kinderssori Academy complies in accordance with the City of Leduc in believing that it is important to promote healthy lifestyles and to discourage the use of tobacco products. All City of Leduc buildings are designated smoke free. As Kinderssori Academy is located in a church we abide by the above guideline. As well as abiding the guidelines within the church itself.
The school does not administer medication. If children are not well, they should remain at home. For children with severe allergies or asthma, parents must leave a ventilator and/or Epi-pen at school. These are stored safely out of reach of our students in a clear bag, out of reach of all children but visible for the parent helper with quick access if needed. The above situations are the only cases in which Kinderssori staff will administer medication provided that the child’s parent has given written consent on the registration form; the medication is in the original labeled container with all the directions for administration on the label as well as a written list of symptoms that occur prior to administration of medication ex. swelling, hives, and itching. When medication is administered, it is the responsibility of the teacher to record the date, time, name of the medication, the dose is given, and circumstances as to why the medication was administered and signs the record. It is also the responsibility of the teacher to inform both the child’s parent(s) that the emergency situation occurred where the administration of medication was necessary.
Due to peanut allergies, we remain a nut aware classroom. If parents wish to hand out loot bags on their child’s birthday or classroom event or bring in a sweet treat, we request nut-free items only.
Weather permitting; we try to spend a period of fifteen-minutes outdoors throughout the school year.
Please be aware of the conditions and prepare your child with the proper attire and/or skin protective lotion. On sunny days we encourage all parents to apply sunscreen before class and to leave a sunhat in their child’s cubby.
If the weather conditions reach -30C without the wind chill factor, or when blizzard conditions make driving impossible the school will close. The school will notify you by email and/or phone if classes are cancelled.
Many educational opportunities are missed due to absence. Repeated absences interrupt the flow of your child’s learning, creating additional work for teacher and student. Please schedule your family vacations in conjunction with the school’s calendar. The Directress reserves the right to withdraw a student from the school for excessive tardiness and absenteeism, except where due solely to illness, disease or accident, as certified by a licensed physician. Five days per semester will be considered the general guideline. This policy helps maintain our school structure. Parents are asked to notify the school if their child will not be attending for any reason. Consistent attendance will ensure academic success!
Our goal is to provide a happy and secure environment for your child. During the first six weeks of school, classroom rules and expectations are clearly defined. Children learn quickly what is and what is not appropriate behaviour, and we gently encourage the child to respond accordingly.
We help our children learn to manage their own social relationships by facilitating their resolution of conflict at a ‘peace’ table. We do not use time outs, and any type of punishment is strictly prohibited. When necessary, we provide the child with choices and redirect his/her energy towards a more positive activity. Children who are unable to function within the ground rules are often guided to a quiet activity as a calming interlude.
Parents can assist the school by using positive discipline in the home environment:
At Kinderssori Academy Inc. we maintain a zero tolerance policy for abuse of any kind. Students are not permitted to scratch, kick, bite, hit or harm another child or staff member. We teach our students that “hands are not for hitting” and repeat this message as often as necessary. Occasionally if a child has come to us from another program they may have picked up bad habits along the way, behaviours that may have been overlooked or even tolerated in another setting. We will work diligently with these students to reward positive behaviours as long as they are not a threat to our community.
If a child hits or hurts another student, we will contact the parent or guardian and ask that they immediately pick up their child. Together, family and school will work to resolve this problem. If however a child continues to put our class at risk, the child will be withdrawn from our program.
While most children are well suited to this method of learning, no school is right for every child or family. If we believe we are unable to meet the needs of the child, or the parent's expectations, we will refer the family to an alternate program.
Children are admitted for the duration of the academic year and parents are obligated to make the tuition payments for the entire year. No refunds are granted.
Withdrawals from the school must be requested in writing 30 days in advance of the final date the child/children will attend. If the withdrawal is approved, tuition is to be paid for 30 days after the initial request.
Kinderssori Academy Inc. reserves the right to cancel the enrolment of a child for the following reasons:
In the event there is a concern regarding the child’s continued participation in the classroom, Kinderssori Academy will immediately contact the parents for a conference. It is left to the discretion of the Directress whether to continue the enrollment of a child under challenging circumstances.
Student records contain the information provided to us by the parents including the application forms, contact form, critical incident reports, behavior management reports, and medical information.
Your child’s information is considered highly confidential and will never be released or shared without your permission.
