Kinderssori Academy is a community of teachers and parents committed to developing and providing exceptional programming opportunities to envelop the spirit of the child by encouraging independence, curiosity, responsibility and cooperation. We respect the child’s uniqueness, promoting tolerance, good sportsmanship, and nonviolence. We chose to model appropriate behaviours by demonstrating kind and considerate ways to behave. We help the child to understand that conflicts can be resolved. That everyone has the right to be heard and their feelings respected. We believe that manners are important and sadly lacking in our culture today. Our ultimate goal is to encourage self-discipline, respect for oneself, all others, and the planet we share.
At Kinderssori Academy, we believe in the celebration of the young child. Our role as teachers is to make learning an exciting and rewarding journey. In teaching children specific skills, we seek not only to impart knowledge, but to also instill habits of learning, questioning and relating to others. We wish to create a positive sense of self, responsibility and independence in order to produce a well developed whole person.
We believe in the foundation of Dr. Maria Montessori’s method of learning. Combined with today’s stresses to get ahead and modern technological advances our program is geared to prepare the child for a life-long love of learning. Our integrated program is for the benefits, needs, and interests of the child, and their future academic success.
“Education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the individual and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences...” – Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori’s philosophy reflects a deep respect for children, and a belief that children are active participants in their own learning. Montessori believed that the goal of early childhood education is to prepare an environment that cultivates the child’s natural desire to learn. She felt the environment and materials should be designed to motivate the child towards self directed learning and independence from adults.
The Montessori Method is based on:
Kinderssori Academy provides a child-centered learning environment. A number of low tables and chairs suited to the preschooler, allow children to work in small groups or to work individually without distractions. Materials at each level are arranged on student sized open shelves, separated according to subject matter and ordered from simple to complex, concrete to abstract. Montessori noted that most children learn from concrete experience and direct interaction with their environment. Concrete learning materials are provocative and simple; each carefully designed to stimulate logical thought and discovery.
The curriculum is organized into a spiral of integrated studies that span programs, rather than compartmentalized into separate subjects. Subjects are integrated into studies of the physical universe, the world of nature, and the human experience. Literature, the arts, history, social issues, and science all complement one another. This integral approach is one of Kinderssori’s greatest strengths. For example, when students study Canada, they will also read and explore the First Nations, prepare and enjoy a native feast, create native crafts, build a tepee, explore their way of life, sit in on a native storytelling session and/or powwow, and study the natural resources of Canada’s past and present.
Current educational theory and research indicate that learning is an individual process, in time frame, style, interests, and also that children learn from one another. Heterogeneous grouping, by ability and age, improves relationships between all students, and facilitates the use of learning objectives and expectations. This results in a strong sense of classroom unity, peer instruction, and role modelling.
At Kinderssori Academy, children are grouped in mixed-ages and abilities from 3 to 5+ years. There is constant interaction, problem solving, child-to-child teaching, and socialization. Children are challenged according to their ability, and able to find an intellectual peer.
We do not discriminate based on race, color, creed, or ethnic origin, gender, income, disability or religion. Multicultural education is an integral part of the Kinderssori curriculum, ranging from and including monthly cultural studies, religious celebrations, ethnic songs, dances and beliefs. We strive to create a stimulating, cooperative and non – competitive environment. It is important for children to develop a joy and enthusiasm.
